Our world is on its way to becoming the Brave New World. We have comparable technological and scientific advancements that are following the same path of those in the World State, but we have not quite reached its level. Our continual development of different sources of entertainment and genetic engineering are slowly matching up to those found in Brave New World. The hypnopaedic phrases do exist in our world, but not necessarily the United States. Places like North Korea and other dictatorships thrive on propaganda like the hypnopaedic phrases found in the novel, so it is not impossible for that propaganda to take action in the U.S. Our morals are still quite different, where sex is widely considered a monogamous activity in our society as opposed to the theory of "everyone belongs to everyone," that we find in the book. Happiness in their society is found through cosmetically enhanced beauty and soma, while we still have major focuses on family and friends as the source of our happiness. Historically, this society appears to be completely possible. The caste system in India ran a functioning society for hundreds of years and the totalitarian style of government still exists today in some circumstances.
The society we live in today is no where near the expanse of the World State, but in a few hundred years it could be completely possible. History tends to repeat itself, and if that happens, Brave New World will not be an unreachable civilization.
