One major example of controlling even personal life is sterilization. The Hatchery and Conditioning Center allows for 30% of the women to stay fertile (Huxley, 23) so they give the Alphas and Betas the privilege to keep functioning ovaries. The women of the three lower classes are given a male sex-hormone to make them into "freemartians," women with no reproductive abilities. Even so, the Alpha and Beta women are given Malthusian belts to use if they choose to participate in intercourse. These guarantee that no child will develop.
